What is punganur cows?

Punganur cows are a breed of small-sized indigenous cattle found in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. They are also known as Punganuru or Punganur dwarf cows. These cows are known for their high milk production despite their small size.

The average weight of Punganur cows is around 115-140 kg, and their height is about 70-90 cm. They have a short and shiny coat of red, black, or brown color with white patches on the udder and face. Their ears are elongated and droopy, and their eyes are large and dark.

Punganur cows are well-adapted to the hot and dry climatic conditions of the region. They are primarily used for dairy purposes, and their milk is rich in protein and fat. The milk yield of Punganur cows ranges from 3 to 5 liters per day, which is relatively high compared to their body weight.

Due to their high adaptability, low maintenance cost, and excellent milk yield, Punganur cows have gained popularity in recent years. The Government of India has also recognized them as a unique breed and has taken steps to preserve and promote their population.
